â€śBasics of sustainable forest governance" and "Forest fire safety manual for volunteers" officially released
The official release of the "Forest fire safety manual for volunteers" took place on July 27, 2012 at the Institute of Improving of Qualifications of Forest specialists under the MENR. The event was dedicated to the role of ecological education in the sustainable management of forest resources. During the seminar. Another tutorial on â€śBasics of sustainable forest governance; ecological requirementsâ€ť, developed by the ENPI FLEG Program in Azerbaijan, was introduced and widely discussed with the participants.
Discussions concentrated on the impact of the climate change on the increasing number of the wildfires and importance of sustainable practices and ecological education in the area of forest management. ENPI FLEG Program Country Coordinator in Azerbaijan Azer Garayev, the co-author of the manual at the faculty of Ecology and Soil Studies of the Baku State University Allakhverdi Dolkhanov and Program Forest Education Consultant Lala Dadashova led the discussions during the meeting.
Among participants were senior specialists from the MENR, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Emergency Situations, State Fire Control Service, Programâ€™s sociologists and representatives from ecological NGOs. All participants were presented with copies of the manuals.
Both books were highly welcomed and appreciated by major stakeholders. It was suggested to publish more copies of the books and to circulate them among the respective governmental and public institutions in the nearest future.
