Thematic Roundtable on Combating Illegal Timber Use and Trade to be Held in Arkhangelsk on April 6, 2011
On April 6, 2011, a round table - workshop "Combating Illegal Timber Trade. FLEG Implementation in Russia", organized by the Arkhangelsk Region Forestry and Hunting Agency and the World Bank, will take place under the Arkhangelsk International Forestry Forum (April 6-8, 2011).
The participants in the round table will discuss issues in relation to counteracting illegal timber harvesting and associated trade; forest and related law enforcement, in particular, in the pilot ENPI FLEG regions â€“ Arkhangelskaya oblast, Khabarovsk and Primorsky Kray. This event will be attended by representatives of the Federal Forestry Agency, executive government bodies on forest management from the Arkhangelsk and other regions of the country, law enforcement authorities, municipal administrations of Arkhangelsk Region, environmental NGOs (WWF, IUCN) and the lumber industry; World Bank experts; and forest certification professionals.
As an outcome of this event, draft guidelines on preventing and reducing the scope of illegal logging and associated trade in Russia, developed by a team of WB experts under the ENPI FLEG Program, are planned to be reviewed.
