Videos on the Importance of Forests Prepared in Georgia

Two 30-second video clips have been prepared in Georgia within the framework of the Program on Improving Forest Law Enforcement and Governance in the European Neighbourhood Policy East Countries and Russia (ENPI FLEG). The first phase of the Program is now over, while the preparation for the second phase is underway.

The Program was supported by the European Commission and Austrian Development Cooperation and aimed at putting in place improved forest governance arrangements through the effective implementation of the main priorities set out in the St. Petersburg Ministerial Declaration and Indicative Plan of Actions on the Europe and North Asia Forest Law Enforcement and Governance (ENA-FLEG). Its geographic scope mainly included seven countries of the ENA Region - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

Implementation of the Program was led by the World Bank, working in close partnership with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

The Program has supported selected pilot activities implemented with the active involvement of governments, civil society and the private sector. The key activities covered: Development of national action plans, capacity building and training, awareness raising, assistance in enhancing regional and sub regional collaboration.

These two video clips will contribute to the increased awareness and commitment of key stakeholders on forest law enforcement and governance. One video is dedicated to the importance of forests in general, while the other – to the negative impacts of illegal logging. The videos will also be demonstrated on public TV channel in Georgia.
